What Makes a Community?

Where I come from community is very important. In my little town of Labe in West Africa, community was everything to us. The saying it takes a Village very much resonated with us. With this children and everyone in the community felt love and always came together when celebrating or when in crisis. What makes a community to me is a group of people with the same goals, struggles and culture who comes together to form a family. even though many people downplay the virtual world as if it is something fake or not a great as the real communities, I do believe it has the ability to bring people together like no other.  One example I can give is my family's website. I have one of the largest family's in my town and we are all scattered around the world. Because of our family's website, we are able to be a community. We get news of our hometown, deaths, accomplishments and most importantly everyone is in touch and when one person is in need, we all come together to help.  To me that's the power of the internet. The fact that we can still be a community despite being so far from each other is truly powerful. In my opinion in terms of community, the internet makes it possible for people to create bigger communities without boundaries. For example when crisis happen around the world, people all around the world come together to mourn, send support as well letting me they are not alone instantaneously. That to me is such a beautiful thing and is the purpose of an community and the internet makes it all easier.

Convergence

As a person who grew up in the millennium, let me start by saying I am extremely thankful for convergence.  To think of a couple of years ago when I was in High School I could not bring my lap top to school because it was too big to now being able to put my Mac Book Air in my backpack without it weighing too much to me is like heaven.  To think before that time there were personal computers bigger than a Desktop and before Desktops there were computers as big as a house is crazy. One of my favorite gadget is the Smart phone. I believe the smart phone is one of the best inventions. Before the smart phone I remember having a camera, and iPod and a tablet. This was very expensive to say the least. But because of convergence, I now have the ability to hold a phone that has all of the followings. Not to mention that I don't have to look up directions online print them out and use them on the road. Now I have my directions in my phone as well as my music my camera and much more. In some cars these days they have their own personal computer with internet. To me that is fantastic and I'm so thankful to be living in this era because life is much easier and I know technology only gets better and better.

Artificial Intelligence, Robots and Privacy Oh My!

At the beginning of the class we were told by the end of class we should learn more about the virtual world but also should be scared endlessly because of the virtual world.  One of the things that I have already discussed about is the lack of privacy on the virtual world. This is a concern I have everyday that scares the living crap out of me yet I still utilize it every minute of my life. Almost everything is computerized in this day and age from our computers, our phones, out cars and even our doors at home. Not to mention now robots are replacing a lot of our jobs which is taking out human jobs. One thing that worries me about that is that people will start thinking human made things are actually humans. In my opinion I do not think robots are human because they are man made. Even though they are capable of doing many things humans can do and in the future I believe they will have the brain capabilities of humans, I still do not believe they are human simply because they are man made. Furthermore what is scary about artificial intelligence is men being able to change the world. One of the things I heard about the other day is technology that allows people to choose what they want their babies to look  like. Whether you want brown eyes, blue eyes, silky hair, kinky hair or anything you can artificially make the features you want on your children. This is to me is very disturbing. I'm all for the evolution of technology but when it comes to modifying the human features to that extreme, I am extremely scared for the future.

Dot.Com to Dot.Bomb

When I saw the tittle of this blog I laughed to myself just a little bit. The reason for that is because there is a reality star who refers to things as .com or .org at the end of her sentences. The Dot.Com Dot.Bomb was one of the most interesting subject that we studied in class in my opinion. Being a 90s baby born in West Africa I had no utilized a computer until 2004 when my family moved to the United States.  Because I was not familiar with computers and the evolution of it, it was fun for me to learn about how the most popular companies came about and how the market of technology evolved from then to now. One of the most fascinating thing I learned was how the computer world is the fact that it took off quickly with people making so much money to the same companies going down and people losing money. One of the things or lessons I learned from the situation is the smartest and strongest companies came out alive and the weak went instinct like dinosaurs. I my opinion a lot of the companies had great ideas but because they were not delivering the demands of the customers they did not make it. Some of the companies that made it that we are all familiar with and utilize are Amazon, Ebay, Microsoft and Yahoo which I'm shocked about because I don't remember the last time I used Yahoo. To say the least I am thankful that the following companies made because I don't know what I would do without Amazon as a future employee and current company.

What I Would not Buy Online.

There are a lot of things I would not buy online. My top three items are number one a gun, two a fake ID, three if I were a sleazy person I would not buy a prostitute online either. If you've noticed, all of the above are illegal things. The reason why I chose them is because they can be traced back to me and I would be arrested for them which would make me stupid criminal if I were one. Now, I would never buy  any of the following in real life never the less online so let's get this out of the way. But if I were do, it definitely would not be online. The following three items I have seen documentaries on each which buyers have bought them online and have gotten arrested. Especially the one with the prostitutes. There are so many times that I have seen shows where police would do a sting operation where the authorities disguise themselves as prostitutes and once the johns get to the location they are arrested. This is great in my opinion because the authorities are using the internet to catch horrific criminals who truly deserve to be in jail. One of the fascinating things I heard about recently has been the black market. Black market is a market online where you can get anything and it is untraceable. I do not know what genius started that but I know the are making millions. Soon enough though I know the authorities will be able to trace that as well.

Virtual Scavenger Hunt Post

The virtual scavenger hunt was the activity that I have had the most fun in class with. Although the scavenger hunt was fun it was eye-opening as well. Being able to find Mr. Fry's information within minutes was scary because I knew anyone can find me the way I found him with little information such as my name. This was scary because is someone wants to do harm to be and they are committed  to find me it is most likely they will. In a world where this is prevalent I am extremely scared because there is so much information about me out there that even if I stay completely away from the online now they will still be enough information about me to last for a lifetime. One example I can give was a documentary I watched the other about mugshot websites. There are websites out there that post people's mugshots on their sides and in order for them to take them down the person must pay them. This was extremely scary yet frustrating to watch because it shows that there are bad people our there who will take your information use it to their advantage to ruin someone's life. Because of the power of the virtual world and the lack of privacy that it provides, I am very careful about what I post on my social media because I know it can affect my life one day. This is something I have control of what is scary is that someone can take that positive thing and turn it into a negative. That I have no control over which scares the living crap out of me.

HTML Post Review

Making my HTML post was extremely difficult for me to say the least. First and foremost I would like to say I am thankful to be in an era where technology is so advanced that I do not have to think about HTML as much as back when technology was not advanced. It took me four frustrating attempts to build my HTML. As a person who does not have interest in technology and how computers operate in dept I has a lot of trouble but as time went by a truly learned a lot. One of the first things I learned is that even though the evolution of the computer has been extremely fast and some new innovation comes out everyday, it takes a lot of patience to create them. For example to think of the person who created the HTML language creating. He has to have had a lot of patience because I'm sure it took him numerous trials before he perfected his craft. One of the mos frustrating part about making my HTML was typing up all of the directions and then finding out I did something wrong. I actually did that three time each time I had to start over and each time I started over I got more frustration. Although it was extremely frustrating to make my HTML, I was glad to learn the process as well as at the end I was fascinated by it so I'm glad I did it.
